About The Dream from the Other Side by Melissa Tan
The Dream from the Other Side by Singaporean Melissa Tan takes a historical look at the mapping of Singapore from one of the earliest Singapore-owned topographical maps (1958), to the present day (2020). Over the course of its showing across the three libraries – Woodlands, Jurong and Tampines Regional Libraries – the installation will morph to represent how these three different areas have transformed over time. The surfacing or disappearing of new towns and water bodies amongst other features, have caused these regions to change in shape and size – changes that will be reflected in each sculpture as the exhibition progresses. The work acts as an invitation for audiences to observe its modifications as reflections of the constructive changes around us, as well as to speculate on the future of Singapore’s terrain. For more information, visit bit.ly/sammmm-melissa.
