Description

Sometimes, the world can feel like it’s on fire, and we may feel overwhelmed. Self-care isn’t just important; it’s crucial to our wellbeing and survival, in order to cope with the normal stresses of life. We’re here, we’re queer, and we need to take care of ourselves.

Sayoni is excited to present to you a one-day symposium, or “feel tank”, on emotional wellbeing for lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer (LBTQ) persons. Join us for a dialogue session and/or interactive workshops centered around self-care. We will learn about as well as engage in self-care practices, and through these sessions, we can hold space for each other to heal and recharge, both as individuals and as a community.

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” - Audre Lorde

-

Dialogue: "Why self-care isn’t selfish" (11.00am to 1.00pm)

The dialogue session aims to uncover how our emotional wellbeing might be affected by the current social climate, as well as how we can support ourselves and each other by engaging in self-care and healthy coping strategies during periods of stress or vulnerability. There will be a Q&A session.

  • ROSIE comes from an extensive history of working with young people using drama and theatre to explore potentially difficult and sensitive youth-related themes and issues. She has a Masters in both applied theatre and counselling, and often combines her knowledge of these two fields throughout her practice. She runs experiential workshops and group therapy, specialising in addictions and trauma.
  • SHAN is a registered social worker with a Masters in Social Work and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology, currently is working in a local youth organisation.
