About the Programme/Event

Want to make interactive light-up friendship bracelets that light up when you are near your friend?

Join us for this beginner-friendly live-streamed session where we make this cool bracelet out of felt and simple electronic components. Our session will cover the following:

  1. Introduction to Wearable Electronics
  2. Using recycled materials
  3. Sewing with conductive thread
  4. Using Led Lights in your wearable

Recommended tools and equipment (Items are available in craft and electronics shops):

  1. LED (Light Emitting Diodes – 3 types)
  2. 3V Coin Battery (CR2032 or equivalent) x 1
  3. Metal Snap Buttons x 2 (A pair for each bracelet. Pair is complete top & bottom snap. Any size.)
  4. Sewing Needles – Mid size range with needle eye that can take conductive thread width
  5. Conductive Thread + Cotton Thread – 1 roll
  6. Coloured Felt Cloth + Fabric Remnants (Felt long & wide enough to coil on wrists & to make 1 bracelet. Fabric Remnants size large enough to cover a coin cell. Small pieces of felt for embellishments.)
  7. Tape (electrical or cloth tape works) To secure wire & insulate since no soldering is made. 1 Roll.
  8. Copper Tape / Copper Wires (Alternative) Same length to run circuit around wrist length bracelet.
  9. Pliers – to bend led legs. Any chain nose or long nose plier will do. Flat nose but with tapered front. Not too wide.
  10. Aluminium/Gold Foil (New/Recycled) Just able to make strips. This provides alternatives to wire & also provides connectivity to circuits.
  11. Fabric Glue/ Clear Adhesive (Optional) – this is alternative to sewing embellishments. Eg you can glue star shaped patches instead of sewing to embellish bracelets.
  12. Cutters / Scissors / Pencil / Measuring Tape / String – Tailors tape is for measuring your wrist circumference. String can be used if tape is unavailable.

This programme is suitable for beginners.

Recommended for participants of age 10 years and above.
