About the Programme/Event

It is common to feel sad or lonely, especially when dealing with life struggles or personal loss. But when such feelings become overwhelming and affect your emotional and physical well-being, they may keep you from living a fulfilling life. Depression is characterised by persistent feelings of sadness, low mood and a general loss of interest in previously enjoyable activities. It is like a “common flu” that can affect anyone regardless of age or gender. According to the Singapore Mental Health Study (2016), depression was the most prevalent mental health condition with one in 16 people in Singapore living with the condition in their lifetime. Despite its prevalence, seeking help may be challenging for some due to the lack of public awareness about mental health conditions, social stigma, and the complexity of seeking help in Singapore.

This talk aims to address the following questions:

  • What is depression?
  • What is the difference between sadness and depression?
  • How and where can one seek help?

This programme is suitable for those aged 50 years and above, and organised in collaboration with Monfort Care (Marine Parade).
