Event description

Description

"What is it like to be a woman in Afghanistan?"

Other than news of deadly bombings, violence and terror attacks by various militant groups, we hardly hear of the lives of the locals and civilians who live in this country. They continue to live their lives in the wake of daily attacks, holding on to a shrinking hope of a better future, uncertain of what tomorrow will bring.

In 2017, Afghanistan was ranked among the five most dangerous countries. Under the Taliban regime, Afghan women were forbidden to work, leave the house without a male escort and were forced to cover themselves from head to toe. The price of disobedience was public execution under the Taliban law.

Today, the situation seems less dire, but gender equality remains a distant dream.
But how much of what we perceive of this country is truly the facts on the ground?

Reserve your seat now and join in the conversation with Anna Kryszylowciz, Hagar Afghanistan's Executive Director as she shares firsthand her personal experiences living in Afghanistan for the past 5 years and how HAGAR is helping some of the most vulnerable and marginalised women and children in this country.

**Please note this is a free event and light dinner will be served from 6.30pm onwards. Seats are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

Anna has spent the last 5 years working in Afghanistan. Anna is deeply passionate about supporting children, developing foster care systems, and empowering women and families for a better and sustainable future in Afghanistan. Anna holds a Master’s Degree in Economics (Faculty of Foreign Trade), and has completed postgraduate studies in Protective-Educational Pedagogics, as well as various courses on working with children, such as Social Therapy for Children of Alcoholics and Child Protection Policy in NGOs.

Hagar Afghanistan runs two shelters, Transitional Care Centre for afflicted women and children in the capital city Kabul and Forgotten No More, the only boys home in Afghanistan.
