About the Programme/Event

Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) have revolutionized the ways that we think about lighting. For aspiring makers, knowing the lighting solutions available for our projects can make the difference between getting exactly what we want and going down a deep, dark rabbit hole.

This session will cover the following topics:

  • Distinguish between the different types of LEDs and the basic electrical terminology required to use them.
  • Discuss common connection types and components to drive LEDs
  • Use a Micro:bit microcontroller to control addressable LEDs for a rainbow effect.

These projects will not be covering mains power. For information regarding any electrical work involving mains power, please consult with a professional electrician before planning your project.

This programme is suitable for beginners.

Recommended for participants 13 years old and above.
