Giancarlo Esquilín-Lebrón - Managing Member at Thriv LLC

Giancarlo is a tax and business advisor with ample experience in areas such as tax advisory, tax compliance and legislative process. His experience includes corporate and individual taxation in the United States and Puerto Rico with local and international CPA Firms. Giancarlo has also worked with the Puerto Rico House of Representatives.

He has led consulting and compliance work for local and international companies in several industries such as: distribution, retail, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, technology, exportation of services, gold mining, crypto assets, financial institutions, among others. As tax partner, Giancarlo leads consulting services to individuals and corporations, specially covered by tax incentives laws such as Act 135, Act 73, Act 14, Act 20, Act 22, Act 60, among others. Giancarlo has also provided consulting services to the House of Representative, the PR Treasury Department, and the Department of Economic Development and Commerce. Services provided to the governmental industry includes the preparation of tax analysis, tax publications, amendments to tax laws, and part of the team that developed the Puerto Rico Tax Incentive Code.

Giancarlo is a certified public accountant, holds a bachelor’s degree in business with an accounting concentration from the University of Puerto Rico. He's also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and tax instructor at the Puerto Rico Society of CPAs. Giancarlo is currently a director of the board of the PR Society of CPAs, and member of the tax and legislative committee of the organization.

Derren is an EA (Enrolled Agent - license # 00100858-EA) who has been admitted to practice before the IRS and is an associate member of the American Institute of CPAs (#7920958).

He is the author of "Taxes for International Entrepreneurs and Ex-pats: Proven Principles for Legally Reducing Taxes” (

A Partner in Hayden T Joseph & Co. (DBA "Advanced American Tax") also a member of the International Tax Team at Moores Rowland Asia Pacific, with over 30 offices in 11 Asian countries.

He has 2 Masters degrees in Economics. A Certified Diploma from ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in the UK), done Executive Education with Columbia Business School. He has completed Advanced Tax coursework at both New York University and the University of London.

Derren enjoys writing and giving seminars.

He had his views published in the Singapore Business Review, Forbes Asia, the American Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia, the International Business Structuring Association (in the UK), Offshore Alert.

He also has given seminars on tax issues in the U.S., Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, The Philippines, Hong Kong, and the Caribbean.
