Event description

Description

Gratitude is the medicine for a heart weighed down with negativities, for gratefulness restores our focus back to our own relationship with Allah. When the heart is filled with thankfulness, it is enveloped with the blanket of contentment. It helps us see the blessings in front of us, rather than to ruminate on what we have not achieved. Living in this modern age where we are exposed to the lives of others through social media, we tend to draw comparisons. This is unhealthy if it veils us from appreciating the blessings that we have. Eventually, this leads to feelings of sadness and inadequacy. Therefore, it is important for us to focus on the blessings in front of us. When we are grateful, Allah will give us more.

Surah Al-Rahman, which is a chapter in the Holy Quran, reminds us of the blessings Allah has bestowed upon us. Often, we are heedless and forget what we have. Allah says in the Quran, “And if you should count the favor of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust and ungrateful.” It is imperative then for us to be thankful in every state. This will protect us from negative thoughts that can cause us to feel depressed, envious, and upset. Gratitude is at the core of our relationship with Allah swt and acts as a protection against despair.
