Description

Look Inside Yourself: A Mindful Moments Retreat

About this retreat:

When was the last time you took a moment to look inside yourself? With our hectic lives, busy schedules, and a never-ending list of things to do and accomplish, our attention is most often made to focus on external things and situations, and very seldom on our own inner environment. Perhaps the only time we pay meaningful attention to our mind and body is when they are calling for help. Overtime, this way of living develops a disconnect in awareness towards ourselves, and results in much suppressed distress within the mind and body.

This secular full-day mindfulness retreat will be a much-welcomed refuge for participants to connect back with their inner self through the practice of mindfulness and mindful reflections. Held in a setting close to nature and guided by a qualified facilitator, the highly-experiential retreat will encourage participants to turn their attention inwards and practice moment-by-moment awareness to observe and experience what is present within them. Contemplative practices and hands-on activities will allow participants to safely explore and acknowledge the current distresses in their lives, and express or change their perspectives within a supportive environment. Participants will also benefit from group learning and gain insights into common humanity, extending their learning and understanding from awareness of the self to beyond the self.

What to expect:

During the retreat, you will:
  • Acquire foundational mindfulness skills through basic mindfulness practices in different postures.
  • Engage in discussions and dialogues on mindfulness experience and reflections throughout the day.
  • Explore senses, emotions, perspectives, and personal patterns through contemplative practices and experiential activities (held both indoors and outdoors).
  • Discover and release your distress through creative expression and group sharing.
  • Develop the practice of kindness towards yourself and others.
  • Learn to make mindfulness practice a part of your life.

Participation requirements:
  • No prior knowledge of mindfulness is required. Beginners or current practitioners of mindfulness of age 18 and above are welcome.
  • Participants are required to bring their own cushion for sitting on during mindfulness practice. Cushions do not have to be specifically meditation cushions. Chairs are also available for sitting on.
  • Participants are expected to engage in both indoor and outdoor activities, as the weather conditions permit.
  • Participants are encouraged to join with an open mind towards an exploration of their own experience during the retreat.
  • Although mindfulness can be helpful in managing stress, depression and anxiety, this retreat might not be suitable if you are experiencing major depression or other clinically diagnosed psychiatric illness, or current self-harming.

Lunch options:
  • To optimize the retreat experience, participants are required to lunch within the retreat venue, and are not encouraged to dine at restaurants or eateries outside.
  • You may choose to bring your own lunch or have lunch provided by the organizer (at additional cost). Please note that there is no refrigeration or reheating facilities at the retreat venue.
  • Lunch provided will be simple but healthy, filling sandwiches from Cedele Market. You may choose between a few options. Please note that we will do our best to cater to each participant's dietary needs, but some dietary options may or may not be available. Please speak to the organizer should you have concerns about lunch.
