Date: Tuesday 28 March
Time: 12-2pm
Venue: Yeo Workshop, Art Gallery.
Tickets to this luncheon are limited, so do register early to be guaranteed a spot at this exclusive Lunch with the Artist! Over lunch, Maryanto will share his experiences relating to his contribution to social work in Indonesia, and open discussion about the role of artists in championing social change.
Maryanto is a landscape painter who uses his artwork as a form of social activism. After his formal training in fine art, he spent a few years doing social work for the protection and education of children in Indonesia and helping earthquake victims in Jogyakarta. Desiring to make a greater change, he returned to art as he felt it was the best way to raise social awareness. Maryanto's inspiration stems from his observation of the physical landscape and its changes brought about by human interference. While depictions of his native Indonesia are identifiable in his paintings, Maryanto believes that these damaged landscapes are common across geographical and political boundaries.
