"Remembering that humanity meant humus, and not Anthropos or Homo, did not come easily in the webs of Western cultures that predominated in New Gauley." - Donna Haraway, The Camille Stories

'Making Kin' is a collection of personal essays from an ecofeminist lens and reflects on our situated ways of living and dying here in Singapore. What stories do we tell of nature, of our community, and of our collective selves? When we think of family, what comes to mind? And are there other forms of relationships that exist out there?

We invite you to imagine these possibilities with us, as we search for new ways of relating to the text, each other, and the nonhuman critters around us. Just as Haraway imagined alternative worlds of kin-making with the Camilles, how will we play onto her story?

It matters what stories we use to tell stories.

In this session, we will discuss the following:

  • The Spell of the Forest
  • There Will Be Salvation Yet
  • Care is Revolutionary
  • Brief excerpts from Donna Haraway's 'Staying with the Trouble'

Please be prepared to actively participate in these book discussions. You can read the book ahead of the session, or just come with a curious mind to share your thoughts on this topic!
