Event description

Description

Masterclass in Infectious Disease in Solid Organ Transplantation

While organ transplantation offers the best treatment for patients with organ failure, the procedure creates an opportunity for transmission of infections from donor to recipient and reactivation of latent infections or acquisition of new infections in the recipient. Evolution of new and more potent immunosuppressive regimens, wider epidemiological exposure to infections among donors and recipients, availability of more sensitive tools to diagnose and monitor infections, newer anti-infectives to treat or prevent infections and emergence of multi-drug resistance in bacteria infecting or colonizing donors are some of the challenges facing professionals in transplantation. It is important that the entire multidisciplinary team managing donors and recipients are updated with these aspects of donor and recipient evaluation and management.

This Masterclass, brings together world expertise in Transplant Infectious Disease with local experts in transplantation. Held over one and half days from 4th-5th August 2018, the Masterclass is intended to update transplant coordinators, intensivists, transplant physicians and surgeons on various aspects of Transplant Infectious Disease. The format includes Plenary lectures, Symposia, Case presentations and Meet the Expert sessions. Proposed topics include:

  • The Evolving Timeline of Infections in SOT
  • Local guidelines in Deceased Donor Evaluation
  • Superbugs in ICUs
  • Molecular Diagnostics in Diagnosis of Infections
