Event description
An intro to how Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) helps people respond skilfully to stress, burnout, low moods and anxiety.

About this event

This session is for those who are keen to improve their meditation practice or are curious to explore ways of cultivating calmness and resilience through mindfulness, which is about intentionally paying attention to our present experiences with equanimity and kindness.

Cultivating mindfulness can be practiced formally (meditation) and informally (doing things mindfully). It's common for people to meditate and give up. In this session, we uncover the logic that underpins practicing mindfulness and how we can stay with the practice to flourish and find inner peace without striving.

Takeaway points:

1) Why we get triggered and develop symptoms like stress, depression and anxiety;

2) How Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) helps support our mental wellbeing and the journey of freeing ourselves from reactivity; and

3) Info about our upcoming 8-Week MBCT program in Sep-Oct (9 sessions).

We will also do one short mindfulness practice.

About MBCT

Developed by three professors, Zindel Segal (Toronto), Mark Williams (now Oxford) and John Teasdale (Cambridge), MBCT is secular, evidence-based and approved by the National Health Service (NHS) in England as a primary care treatment.

The UK National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends MBCT for clients that have experienced three or more major episodes of depression.

MBCT is also now widely taught to a non-clinical population as a resilient response to difficulties and uncertainties. Mindfulness practices may be integrated with leadership, change management, creativity and design thinking (innovation) programs.
