What are your memories of the chalets and playgrounds at Pasir Ris? Follow us on a nostalgic tour and reminisce on our memories of the town!
About this event
Do you know that the name Pasir Ris was a condensed form of Pasir Iris, where Pasir means “sand” and iris means “to shred” in Malay? Or do you know that Pasir Ris is home to Singapore's largest Tibetan Buddhist Temple?
A mention of Pasir Ris and images of holiday chalets, mangrove parks and sandy beaches immediately spring to mind. For some Singaporeans, scaling the “space-net” rope pyramid at the playground at Pasir Ris Park or camping overnight at the Costa Sands and Downtown East chalets for a post-graduation party has been a rite of passage.
My Pasir Ris Heritage Tour uncovers the stories, personal memories and narratives in the youthful new town as it transforms from an idyllic village into a modern new town. Through the tour, let us discover the places and stories which have shaped Singapore’s “town by the beach”.
