About the Programme/Event
'Art' and 'Craft' are two terms that tend to conjure divergent philosophies and understanding of aesthetics. Through the works of two Singaporean artists - Iskandar Jalil and the late Jaafar Latiff - this presentation hopes to provide some inroads into their art practices and how they negotiated and at times, resisted categorisations.
About the Speaker
Syed Muhammad Hafiz is an independent curator whose research and writing interests include the visual art histories of the Malay archipelago. He has curated exhibitions for museums, commercial galleries and independent art spaces over the past decade. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Malay Studies Department, National University Singapore.
