🌸We are Ngee Ann Polytechnic's Japanese Cultural Club!🌸

The Japanese Cultural Club in Ngee Ann Polytechnic was founded in 1998, consisting of 6 different divisions: Cultural, Comink, Cosplay & J-Fashion, Language, Taiko and Tea Ceremony.

🎎Culture

We teach Japanese culture in areas such as cuisine, handicraft, games, language and events. Our goal is to develop a deeper appreciation of Japanese culture for our members. Additionally, we host Japanese school exchanges in Ngee Ann Polytechnic for members to interact and make new friends.

  • Every Friday: 6:30PM - 9:00PM

✏️Comink

Started in 2010, our name comes from ‘Comic’ + ‘Ink’. We aim to teach members the art of manga drawing and the process of creating one. Members will be taught the fundamentals of drawing as well as receive critical feedback from talented seniors. To personal develop members, they will have opportunities to showcase their artworks and look at how much they have improved throughout their time in Comink.

  • Every Friday: 6:30PM - 9:00PM

👘Cosplay & J-Fashion

We welcome all Cosplay and J-Fashion enthusiasts, regardless of experience. Members will be equipped with basic skills such as make-up, wig-styling, prop-making, etc. Not only will you be taught how to dress up as your favourite characters, but you will also learn how to vary your own fashion with different J-fashion styles. You will be able to learn different Harajuku fashion styles such as Lolita, Decora, Yami-kawaii, etc.

  • Every Thursday: 6:30PM - 9:00PM

🎌Language

Started in 2016, we aim to give members a place to learn and practise the Japanese language with like-minded people. Sessions are carried out as slide presentations but in a fun and stress-free manner, such as the use of ‘Kahoot!’ to test your learning progress or other engaging activities. We aim to teach our members basic Japanese so that they are able to pass the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) N5 level with flying colours!

  • Every Wednesday: 6:30PM - 9:00PM

🥁Taiko

Started in 2005, we aim to teach members how to play the various types of Japanese drums. Taiko will boost your concentration and build your physical strength. Making use of simple rhythms, Taiko is fairly easy to pick up. To top it off, members are given opportunities to perform in big events such as the World Drum Night.

  • Every Wednesday: 6:00PM - 8:00PM
  • Every Saturday: 10:00AM - 4:00PM

🍵Tea Ceremony

Started in 2017, we are here to share with everyone the knowledge and beauty of the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Through striving for the precision of our performances, we are able to train our patience and discipline. However, please don't let the complexity of Tea Ceremony daunt you. The core of the tea ceremony is to entertain, so having fun is most important. We will guide you every step of the way.

  • Every Thursday: 6:30PM - 9:00PM
  • Every Saturday: 10:30AM - 1:00PM
