About One Story

One Story is a National Reading Movement initiative by the National Library Board to make Singapore short stories – originally written in Tamil, Malay, Chinese, or English – available in the other languages. The project aims to bring these stories to more readers beyond the language communities that they were originally written for. “Razi” is a short story by Dr Sa’eda Buang that was originally written in Malay. This book features the story in all four languages.

About the Programme/Event:

As we adapt to the COVID norms, caregivers encounter heightened stress levels as they lack room for respite and de-compression. Join the speakers as they share their personal and professional experiences during the pandemic, practical ways to mitigate and build resilience to caregivers’ stressors.

About the Speaker(s)

Moderator | Hwee Goh | Strategic Communications, Editorial Specialist & Author

Hwee Goh leads the editorial and strategic communications team at The Media Consultants Singapore. Apart from media and presentation training, her forte is in teaching news-related writing to clients in government, community and commercial organizations.

Hwee is a bestselling author of 11 children’s books, and a veteran on the school circuit. She is most appreciated for her experience as a journalist, and her insights on reading and writing. Since 2014, she’s also created content on @hweezbooks where she curates and reviews books and produces “live” content.

Hwee was a MediaCorp scholar classically trained at the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism. She spent 16 years at Channel NewsAsia, wrote Opinion Editorials for TODAY and ended her sojourn at CNA as News Editor.

Panelist 1 | Dr Lim Hong Huay | Epidemiologist, Developmental Paediatrician & Caregiver

Dr Lim Hong Huay, MRCP(UK), MMed(Paed),MScEpi(UK),DLSHTM,FAMS, is an entrepreneur in Singapore’s Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics. With more than 20 years of experience, her interests are in ASD, Early Intervention, Caregiver support, Inclusion, Disability medicine, Epidemiology, Health informatics, and implementation science. She pioneered the ECHO framework and was advisor to the national ECHO Technical Alliance. She is also board member of SGEnable, founder and board chair of CaringSG, and currently co-leading the Singapore Together’s AfA for Caregiver support. Dr Lim is member of steering committee for Enabling Masterplan 2030 and various workgroups e.g. Healthcare framework for PWIDD, ECDA Parent Guide, ASD CPG(CPCHS).

Panelist 2 | Edward Chan | Father & Caregiver

Edward is father of two autistic daughters, 10 and 13 years old. He leads (CAREconnect) for CaringSG and is a course facilitator for SG Enable. As an active champion for disability, Edward is a caregivers’ support group leader and grassroots volunteer.  He also advocates an inclusive society for people with special needs.
