Tour Synopsis

Police Heritage Trail (Live Virtual Tour) - Fighting Crime through Evolving Times

The Police Heritage Trail marks the SPF’s contributions in policing this city-state, from its infancy to its rise to prominence as a highly developed nation. Starting from the first Police Office by the Singapore River, to key police establishments located in the civic district of Singapore, the trail reflects the developments in policing since the 1800s.

Catch a livestream of the trail from the comfort of your homes! Participate in online quizzes during the tour and stand to win attractive prizes. This tour is free of charge and suitable for all ages.

Note: Each tour is limited to 150 registrants.

Programme Details

First Police Office & Former Marine Police Headquarters

Located by the Singapore River, amidst the hive of trading activities, the First Police Office and Former Marine Police Headquarters reflects the humble beginnings of the Force, and how Singapore’s early administrators managed petty crimes along the shoreline with very limited resources.

Former Supreme Court

As an institution that upholds the law, the Former Supreme Court is closely related to the functions of the early Police force. It was also here where the first post-war communal riots happened in Singapore, marking a turning point for the Police Force as it embarked on widespread reforms of its riot handling capabilities.

Old Hill Street Police Station

The proximity of the Old Hill Street Police Station to Chinatown enabled larger police turnouts to respond more effectively to organised crimes that gained Singapore the reputation of "Chicago of the East" in the 1930s. More than a workplace, the Old Hill Street Police Station also housed a barracks which was a home for policemen and their families.

Hong Kong Street

Learn about the dark past of areas like Hong Kong Street, which was a hive of underworld activity in the 1800s, much of it related to secret societies. Various Police institutions were built in the vicinity to suppress its high crime rates.

Central Police Station and Police Courts

The Central Police Station, located at the heart of town, was one of the most prominent Police establishments of its era. Standing at South Bridge Road from 1849 to the 1970s, it housed both the Central Division HQ and Police Headquarters. It was the base from which many crime suppression operations were carried out. Across the road were the Police Courts which housed Singapore's first criminal courts (today part of State Courts).

Kreta Ayer Neighbourhood Police Post

Community policing began in 1983 in response to changing demographics, increasing urbanisation and shifts in population density.
