About the Programme

Photo zines are a way to tell visual stories using one’s own photography collection (be it personally shot, found, or archival images).

This photograph-based zine workshop will focus on the use of zines to present different projects around the theme of “Foreign Lands", looking at ideas of unfamiliar spaces, identity, adventure, and so on. If there are projects related to the theme that you are keen to explore or have already started working on, you can bring them along!

In this workshop, participants will get acquainted with the concept of zines, basic techniques of zine-making, introduced to themed based examples of works by other creatives, and get hands-on experience of making their own zine.

With the guidance of Chang Ming, participants will work on their individual zines to bring their concept and narrative to life, and explore how self-publishing, photography, and design can be an alternative way to communicate and speak about different ideas and perspectives!

Participants are required to:

  • Think of a concept or narrative for the zine related to the theme of “Foreign Lands" (please think about this before your workshop).
  • Bring a minimum of 15 photographs that will be the basis of your zine.
  • Bring along any stationery that you wish to use for the creation of your zine (e.g. markers, heavy weight paper, stamps/inkpad).

About the Series

Zine Design is a series of workshops that highlights DIY culture and zines as a form of creative expression. Join us for a workshop or two and your zines might just be showcased!
