About the programme
Dive into the whimsical ceramic world of Ummu (@ummuramics) and discover the inspirations behind her seabed mugs. Join us at the library for a talk on her journey as an artist and ceramist in Singapore, and how she pushes the boundaries between art and function in her sculptural ceramics. The talk will also include a live demonstration on how Ummu creates her signature pulled handles on her mugs.
About the speaker
Ummu is a ceramic artist based in Singapore who creates functional pieces of art. Formally trained as an artist at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Ummu’s fascination with clay began in 2014 after watching a lecturer demonstrate throwing on the potter’s wheel. Ummu’s works have been featured in publications such as Female Magazine and TodayOnline, and has exhibited with Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the Korean Society of Ceramics.
About the series
Pro Series is a suite of talks curated by library@orchard that gives insight into the craftsmanship of various design disciplines.
