Conference overview

Looking forward to 2020 and beyond, migration to the cities will result in rapid economic and social change which is transforming the built environment. According to the report on Real Estate 2020: Building the Future by PWC, the investable real estate will have grown by more than 55% by 2020 compared to 2012 and over 60% of all construction activity will take place in emerging markets by 2025, up from just 35% in 2005.

Expansion in the cities contribute an estimated 70% of the world’s energy-related greenhouse gases while occupying just 2% of its land. As the world rapidly urbanises, with Asia being the fastest growing region, the pressure to increase sustainability is on. Developers, policymakers, building owners and architects are already integrating sustainability criteria into buildings, new cities and individual homes. Smart and green buildings are undoubtedly on the rise in Asia, with Singapore aims to have 80% of its buildings certified green by 2030. As of June 2017, more than 3000 building projects in Singapore has already met the green mark standards.

Riding on Singapore’s Smart Nation Initiatives, the REDAS-RICS conference will look at some of the technologies available today to create smart building. The conference will also be discussing the adoption strategies, challenges and risks in implementing today’s technology for sustainable building. Topics covered include smart and sustainable initiatives in Singapore, smart design integration of buildings, transformation of existing buildings and the importance of technology providers in data collection.
