Session 1: The Testing of Our Faith

In life, we do encounter trials. How is it possible to “consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials” (James 1:2, NASB)? In this session, using the Inductive Bible Study method, we will dig deep into James 1 to see how we are to respond to times of testing.

Learning Intentions: To consider it all joy when encountering various trials.

Session 2: The Sin of Partiality

The Epistle of James is also known as the Proverbs of the New Testament in that it contains many practical exhortations. In this session, we look at what it means to “not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism” (James 2:1, NASB).

Learning Intentions: To live our lives without partiality so that our faith is alive and shown through our good deeds.

Session 3: The Tongue, The Heart & The Will

Our tongue, if left unchecked, can cause many to stumble because “it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8b, NASB). Our heart too is full of pride and we refuse to submit to God. How should we order our lives to live wisely?

Learning Intentions: To be wise and understanding and to show it by our good behavior in the gentleness of wisdom.

Session 4: Money Matters & Exhortation

In this concluding session, we examine how to handle riches in life. How can we exercise patience until the coming of the Lord? What must we do when we are suffering, or cheerful or sick? Let our real faith produce authentic deeds.

Learning Intentions: To live with an eternal perspective; enduring suffering and being patient, trusting that “the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful” (James 5:11b, NASB).

Organiser Eagles Rendezvous

Organiser of (REPLAY) LIVING WISELY – Real Faith in the Real World by Dr Ho Boon Tiong

Eagles Rendezvous (ER) is a Bible study ministry of Eagles Communications that reaches out to Christians:

– Seeking to build a biblically sound foundation for spiritual experiences with the Lord.

– Serious about studying the Bible and exploring its relevance for contemporary life.

– Desiring to respond in obedience to God's Word within the context of Christian community.

A specific biblical book is studied in cycles, each cycle lasting seven weeks. Led by trained leaders of Eagles Communications, these studies are designed to be informal and interactive, with emphasis on the application of the biblical text to the pressing issues of life today.

Original study notes will guide group members through the process of understanding and applying the Bible. The biblical text will be examined inductively with the following questions addressed sequentially: "What does it say?", "What does it mean?" and "How does it apply to us now?"
