About this Event
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is specially designed for healthcare professionals and will provide the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for conducting real world research in healthcare, based on action research principles. It will be conducted on a virtual platform.
Participants will actively, through a hands on approach, understand and apply the research process, in generating the research question from their practice, to designing the research methodology, conducting literature review, using technology to enable the process, and reporting the research .
Following this workshop participants are expected to conduct disciplined research in an area of their choosing.
PREREQUISITES
Competency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite with an account for Office 365 on the Cloud
Ability to surf and interact on the web.
Ability to search for documents and information on the web using Boolean search strategies.
To bring along a clinical problem/issue in your practice that you would like to find a solution.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Anyone who is engaged in clinical practice and teaching in health care with access to patient care, clinical processes, health professional education and wants to improve their scholastic and research practice.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
This course aims at introducing the basic concepts used in health care research and the research methods and approach. It includes discussions on generating research questions, research designs, strategies for analysis and reporting.
At the end of this workshop the participant should be able to:
• understand and apply the basic framework of the health care research process
• apply the various research designs and techniques
• identify various sources of information and conduct search strategies for literature review
• develop an understanding of the ethical dimensions of conducting applied research
• executing a research project using the models for data collection and analysis
• confidently draft manuscript to report finding including evaluation of its quality.
Pedagogy
Teaching methods include readings, lectures, group discussions, exercises, and assignments.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS (this is a bring your own device (BYOD) workshop)
Hardware - Both Macintosh and Windows systems are acceptable, but Windows is preferable.
