About this event

About the programme

Please note that Open Studio sessions are not workshops. Weaving is an age-old practice inextricably linked to the art of storytelling. The words ‘text’ and ‘textile’ come from the Latin word ‘texere’, which means 'to weave'. Phrases like ‘spinning a yarn’, ‘weaving tales’, and ‘conversation threads’ are testaments to the deep connection between the production of fabric and the fabrication of stories. Textile artist Natalia Tan (@natalia_weaves) is library@orchard’s artist-in-residence from August 2022 to January 2023! During this residency, she will be exploring the intertwining of narratives with the craft of weaving. Drop by any time during this Open Studio session to say hello, discover her studio, and get a first-hand look at her work processes. Please note that Open Studio sessions are not workshops.

Additional information: You may also be interested to join Natalia in a "Tactile Tales: Weaving with Stories" session as well! "Tactile Tales" is a series of community artmaking sessions where you can learn how to weave and create textile art based on your personal stories. For ages 12 years and up.

"Tactile Tales" sessions will be held on the following dates: 28 Aug, 25 Sept, 23 Oct, 27 Nov, 11 Dec 2022, and 29 Jan 2023. Registration is required for "Tactile Tales". Look out and register for a Tactile Tales session here: go.gov.sg/libraryorchardeventbrite
