"Can My Expectations of My Teenage Child’s Academic Performance Affect Their Ability To Perform?”

A Panel Discussion on Parental Expectations by Youth Educators & Counsellors

For Parents of Youth ages 15-19

In our meritocratic society, there is a deep, near-universal parental desire for a good future for our children. As a result, do you feel stressed when you don’t see your youth studying? How do we add to the studies-related stress our youth is already facing? Do our expectations regarding their academic performance play a key role in generating stress?

Through the panel discussion, you will understand more about how your expectations can impact your teen positively or negatively and gain insights to have realistic expectations to alleviate any studies-related stress your child might feel.

Information on Workshops

1. How do I find out more details about the workshop?

Details can be found through the poster posted in every SDA church or sent through SMS. For more information, please ask your local SDA church

2. How long is the workshop?

Parent Workshop is 2 hrs and Youth Workshop is 3 hrs.

3. What is the maximum number of participants for each workshop?

Parent Workshop is 400 and Youth Workshop is 90.

4. Are all the workshops running at the same time?

All workshops will begin concurrently at 2:30pm.

5. Will there be Mandarin translation for the workshops?

Mandarin translation will only be provided for the Parent Workshop if needed.

Registration

7. Is the workshop FREE?

Yes. All workshops are free for all online registrants but registration is by first come, first serve.

8. Can I attend the workshop if I don't register?

No. Entrance to the workshop is only by online registration and you will receive an e-ticket to attend the free event.

9. What if I sign up and cannot come for the workshop?

You can log into your Eventbrite account and click on the workshop event and cancel your order before 11 March. If you need assistance, please email Cynthia: cynthialow@adventist.org.sg to cancel the registration.

10. Can I transfer my registration to someone else if I cannot turn up?

No. You can only cancel your registration.

11. If there are no more vacancies, can I be put on the waiting list?

Yes. Please email cynthialow@adventist.org.sg and provide your name, age, contact number and email address.

12. Can I sign up after the 5 March dateline for registration?

Online late registration will be open if there are any vacancies left.

13. Can I sign up on the spot for the workshops?

Onsite registration is ONLY possible for the Parent Workshop. Please check the online registration portal for number of vacancies left for the workshop before arriving.

14. What if I sign up and did not turn up for the event?

If you registered and cannot turn up for the event, please email Cynthia: cynthialow@adventist.org.sg as soon as possible before the event starts so that we can give your reservation to someone on the waiting list.

Questions on Attending the Workshop

15. When must I arrive for the workshop?

Please arrive by 2:15pm for registration. All workshops will begin promptly at 2:30pm.

16. Where can I park when I arrive?

Parking spaces are very limited in Jurong English Church. Alternatively, you can park at the public carparks in the housing estates in the vicinity.
