Hearing aid technology has advanced significantly over the past few years. Today’s hearing aids are more than just about improving hearing and conversations.
Using Bluetooth technology, it can wirelessly stream sounds from your smartphone, iPAD and TV to your hearing aids to help you hear more, easier and effortlessly. Hearing aids also come in rechargeable form which means seniors no longer have to grapple with small batteries and focus more on better hearing. Why good hearing is important for active aging (Talk in English)

As we get caught up in the demands of the modern world, low level of awareness of hearing health impact combined with our non-or late action can drastically affect the quality of our lifestyles as we age silently.

Trends & Impacts:
• different roles and lifestyles in golden years require good hearing e.g. grandparents as grandchildren's caregiver
• Mild loss can have a big impact, to our studies work and play
• We are working longer, into our golden years
• Sudden hearing loss on the rise

Speaker:

Mr TAN Boon Hai

The Hearing Specialist Group
Msc Audiology (UK)

TAN Boon Hai serves as Principal Audiologist with The Hearing Specialist Group to provide a full range of diagnostic & rehabilitative audiological services. Armed with a Masters in Audiology from the University of Manchester (UK), Boon Hai has garnered over 20 years of rich clinical patient care experience through his varied work stints with private clinics and restructure hospitals.

A well-known local authority in hearing aids evaluation & fitting, Boon Hai also partners with Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists and hearing care partners in the delivery of advanced implantable solutions such as Cochlear implant mapping & programming, middle ear implant, and BAHA implant management.

In addition to providing audiological-related consultations & hearing awareness talks to private & public healthcare institutions and companies. Boon Hai was also instrumental in setting up the first Audiological Services Clinic for the less privileged hearing community in Singapore.
The earlier onset of hearing loss combined with the demands of a socially productive lifestyle as we work well into our golden years’ places great demand and emphasis for good hearing. Hearing loss is often underdiagnosed and undertreated. As hearing loss usually happens gradually over time, its impact is less obvious than say the loss of vision. While many know about hearing loss, they feel it is a natural part of aging that will not happen to them until a long time later. Early symptoms of hearing loss are ignored as many decide to manage around it and left it untreated.
