Description: The registration for this event comprises of (1) the pre-conference seminar and (2) the 2-day multidisciplinary workshop. (1) The pre-conference seminar will teach attendees how to identify proprioceptive dysfunction by the study of image localisation disturbances and the techniques for prescribing active prisms to correct proprioceptive dysfunctions. There are special rules for selecting appropriate frames, frame modification technique for active prisms, specific assembly rules for active prisms and specifications for prisms in multifocal lenses. (2) The multidisciplinary workshop concerns the basic concepts of proprioception and proprioceptive dysfunction, the symptoms of proprioceptive dysfunction syndrome (PDS), vertiginous form, muscle pain form, cognitive form, postural reprogramming technique and the results of the treatment.

Dr Orlando Alves da Silva is a consultant ophthalmologist and a professor of ocular motricity and proprioception. Based in Lisbon, he was a founding president of the Portuguese Group of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and has presented at numerous international conferences as keynote speaker. He is a Visiting Professor in several postgraduate courses in Bologna, Dijon and Madrid and published four books on the treatment in proprioception dysfunction. The workshop is intended for medical doctors, optometrists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other allied health professionals. A certificate of attendance will be presented at the end of the workshop.
