Singapore Botanic Gardens Stroll
Event Information
About this Event
The Gardens have their origin in the mid-nineteenth century as a leisure park and a venue for horticultural shows. The park soon gained scientific and commercial importance; especially the cultivation of the rubber tree and its distribution throughout the region as well as the orchid breeding and hybridisation programmes are closely connected to the history of the Gardens.
From popular landmarks like the iconic bandstand and the tree featured on the 5-Dollar-note, to lesser known gems like a 150-year old orchid and a small patch of primary rainforest, this approximately 2-hour stroll around the Tanglin Core, the oldest section of the Gardens, is a summary of its historical and botanical highlights.
