About the Programme/Event

In Samin Nosrat's bestselling cookbook, Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking, the role of spices is conspicuously absent. However, spices are an essential component of Asian cooking. In this dialogue, we invite two third-generation spice experts to discuss all things spice and how it is used in cooking to amplify flavour.

About the Speakers

Jeya Seelan is a third generation spiceman and the business owner of Jeya Spices. He learnt the art of mixing and blending spices under the apprenticeship of his dad who had in turn learnt the art from his father. A graduate from Wee Kim Wee School of Communication, he left the corporate world in 2014 to help his dad at his spice shop in Yishun and has not looked back since.

Min Ling is a spice girl at Anthony The Spice Maker, which is widely considered to be Singapore’s pioneer spice specialty store. Founded by her dad Anthony Leow, she is part of the third generation in her family involved in the spice business. As a Marketing graduate, she has helped to expand the digital offerings of the business and has shaped it to be more customer focused.
