Overview:

More and more in contemporary organisations we are expected to use personal power rather than positional power to lead change, catalyse engagement and encourage talented staff to stay longer.

With multiple generations in the workforce, growing cultural diversity, rising employee and client expectations, situational versatility© is critical. And because success in many roles will be predicated on excellent stakeholder relations and the creation of work environments that foster inclusion and innovation, we have to be even more adept at ethical and effective persuasion.

Influence can be unconscious and effortless and therefore hit and miss. Strategic influence requires consideration of context, a focus on intention and a repertoire of interpersonal skills, practical yet powerful frameworks and a well-developed knowledge of self.

This program is designed to increase the confidence, competence, and commitment of influencers in persuasive communication. It will be relevant to anyone who seeks to grow their ‘reach’ or impact within and outside their organisation as people managers or senior consultants who may not have staff reporting to them but need to shift attitudes, behaviours and positions as an integral element to their roles.

Topics Include:

  • Influence vs. manipulation
  • A strategic framework for self-awareness and the ability to 'pitch' to different thinking styles
  • Advanced questioning techniques to isolate needs/interests
  • Unconscious bias on influence and how to mitigate
  • Micro-skills in rapport building, selling ideas, sharing bad news
  • Gatekeeper and stakeholder analysis tools
  • Body language including macro and micro-gestures
  • Building your personal brand

Sessions will use various learning strategies including brief theory presentations, case vignettes for analysis and practice, large and small group discussions, a plethora of tools, tips and hacks, movie excerpts for observation in a relaxed, non-threatening environment.
