Event description
Shoot the sunrise with photographers Joy and Alex as they bring you to one of their favourite sunseeking spots in Singapore!

About this event

Whip out your cameras and capture the most beautiful sunrises in our heartlands with photographers Joy and Alex from the Sunseekers. Join us on a morning journey to the west to meet the lovable Sunseekers and hone your photography skills!

Meet Joy and Alex!

Alex Chang

Hello everyone, I am Alex Chang from the photography group – The Sunseekers! I started doing street and macro photography as early as 2011 but started photographing the sunrise more recently in 2015. I enjoy sunrise photography because every sunrise is different. We cannot control how the sunrise changes every passing minute, so capturing that split second is very special to me. I am always captivated by the variety of compositions and colours that our group captures on our weekly sessions!

I have known the Sunseekers for more than 7 years now and I cherish this community we have built! Beyond our weekly meet-ups, I enjoy our makan and chit-chat sessions! The Sunseekers is more than just capturing the sunrise - it is about the people and the community we have built over these years!

Joy Lee

Unlike some of the more well-equipped photographers, I use my camera phone to capture sunrises and sunsets. However, don't be fooled by this simple device! I can experiment with different tools creatively such as steel wool to enhance my photographic practice and produce unique compositions and effects.

I have been with the Sunseekers for almost 3 years. Joining this photography community has brought me closer to a group of people whom I would have never met! Our group is more than just photographing the sunrise as it is the people and community that make it so enjoyable! I cannot wait to show you some of my tips and tricks but also introduce you to this home-grown community this coming September!

Organiser My Community Festival

Organiser of Sunrise Photography @ My Jurong with Joy Lee and Alex Chang

My Community Festival is a ground-up initiative showcasing Singapore’s best kept secrets and community stories through immersive tours, tastings and other cultural and heritage experiences.

4 Things To Know About The Festival

  • It is curated in collaboration with heritage practitioners, business owners, legacy brands as well as a number of religious and cultural institutions.
  • It builds upon the demand for culinary travel, cultural exploration and activity-based travel experiences - evident from the consumption habits of locals and tourists alike.
  • It aims to connect people from all walks of life through the festival platform in the hopes that they may go on to expand their social networks.
  • The festival has taken on an added dimension as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It serves as a means in which to re-introduce locals back to the island’s ethnic enclaves and to support local, legacy establishments in a triumphant display of resilience as a community. Let’s come together to celebrate the Singaporean spirit after a challenging 2020.
