Description

(137, Queen's Ave, S758592)

The world has become smaller, but this is not just due to the rise of the Internet or budget airlines. With conflicts raging in North Africa and the Middle East, our eyes are focused on the refugees who risked the perilous journey from North Africa to Europe via Turkey. In transit centres for Serbian refugees, Tzu Chi volunteers personally visited those who fled their homes to render care and aid to them, transcending the boundaries of race, religion, and language.

The world has become smaller; it is like one big family now.
The world has become smaller, but love has grown and expanded.

Speakers Introduction:
◎ Sim Sem Peng
Sim is a self-made entrepreneur who has developed and expanded his father’s weighing scale business into its commercial domain today. He even founded Singapore’s one and only museum of measuring scales. Little did he expect to "gain” even more after joining Tzu Chi—he managed to curb his indulgence in aimless pleasures, leaving him more time to spend with his family and to do volunteer work. To him, abundance is not just about having plenty of material comforts, but also about being content with life and feeling peaceful and at ease.

◎ Teh Soo Peng
She enjoys listening to Master Cheng Yen’s pre-dawn Dharma talks, which deeply connect with her at a spiritual level. She met a one-month-old baby during her visit to a refugee shelter in Serbia and remembered his cute name, "Andy", and it also struck her that a sweet might be all it takes to make a child smile, regardless of how harsh the environment. She always reminds herself to seize every opportunity to do good, and never forgets her aspiration to serve the needy.
