Throughout all of modern Singapore’s history, transport networks have had an indelible impact on the island’s urban development. The age-old need to move from Point A to Point B for the everyday conduct of life has played a key role in how Singapore’s urban landscape has evolved over time – and will continue to do so in the future. Historian Eisen Teo, author of Jalan Singapura: 700 Years of Movement in Singapore, will unpack a brief history of the intersection of transport and urban evolution – and search for the roles the Bukit Pasoh-Tanjong Pagar area has played in this.
