Description

TED is a non-profit organization, devoted to the spreading of ideas ranging from the fields of science and business to global issues. In Term 3, on Saturday 22nd September 2018, AIS has been granted approval to host a TEDxYouth conference - an independently run TED event, organised by, and catered towards, students.

TEDxYouth@AIS 2018 is the second annual running of TEDxYouth conferences at the Australian International School.

This year we have 8 speakers from a range of topics and fields:

Unannounced Invited Speaker - The Spirit of Adventure

-----

Elyse Barg - Cryptocurrencies - Cool, So What?

Elyse explores the origin of the cryptocurrency in the midst of the Global Financial Crisis, and discusses the economic implications of such a widely heard term, but rarely understood system in a post-GFC economic climate.

Unannounced Invited Speaker - What actually happens inside an orchestra?

-----

DJ Kim - Life and Mortality

DJ grapples with the concept of death as an inevitable occurrence that can happen at any moment, and the concept of the future as variable to the individual and their foresight. He explores his personal experience with us, and imparts some of the wisdom he has gathered on 'accepting death'.

Malakai King - What will it mean to be human?

Humans have core values that affect the way we act and these values have changed the path of humanity throughout time. As technology gains control of our lives, how will these values guide us towards a nebulous future?

Jonathon Ooi - How to get the most out of your learning time

When one thinks to learn, they think to listen and follow. But Jon wants to show us that the best form of learning is teaching. Because when we teach, we engage. When we engage, we learn.

Aryan Shresth - The Future of National Identity

Aryan explores the biggest problems of the 21st century, such as climate change, in a different light. He discusses the development of national identities across the world into the 21st century, and how they will impact our ability to solve the key threats to our world.
