Event description
A 3-part webinar series that will take you through the Story of Our Climate Emergency - on the Road to the Sustainable Development Goals

About this Event

THE GLOBAL ROOM started as an exhibition at the Stockholm Architecture Festival in August 2019. THE GLOBAL ROOM is now coming to you in the form of a conversational webinar series.

THE GLOBAL ROOM seeks to answer your questions about our climate emergency and explain how we came to develop the Sustainable Development Goals.

It also aims to create space to discuss difficult and complex issues and feelings around ecoanxiety, helplessness and frustration. You are not alone in feeling this way! We're all working together to build a better future for humanity.

Each session will be a small-group discussion of up to 10 people. Most suitable for ages 12 and up - all are welcome! Groups of friends and family members are encouraged to join in the same sessions together.

Please note that all ticketed times are listed in Singapore Time (GMT +08). Do make use of the Time Zone Converter (https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html) to avoid confusion (:

This 3-part webinar series is held on consecutive days (Tues/Wed/Thurs) at the same time, 1.5h each day. Please pick a time that suits you! Get one single ticket for admission to all three parts on consecutive days.

  • Part 1: Our Impact on Nature - A look at how human activities have impacted our environment since the industrial revolution (Tuesday 0900h / 1800h Singapore time)
  • Part 2: Getting Organised - Understanding how humanity came to agree on the science and what to then do about it (Wednesday 0900h / 1800h Singapore time)
  • Part 3: Our Common Mission - Activating every level of society to understand the part they have to play in this global challenge (Thursday 0900h / 1800h Singapore time)

Samantha Suppiah (CEng MCIBSE) created THE GLOBAL ROOM in Summer 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden. Now an independent sustainability consultant based in Southeast Asia, Samantha seeks to expand our understanding of the global challenges we face, and to explain what we're doing to stand up to them.

Half of all proceeds will go towards three charities:

  1. Wildlife Conservation Society in Southeast Asia https://www.wcs.org/our-work/regions/southeast-asian-archipelago
  2. The Lao Elephant Initiative https://www.laoelephantinitiative.org/
  3. The Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre https://www.bsbcc.org.my/

Reviews

Simarpreet Kaur, Environmental Engineer, Singapore

The content of the webinar was not full of technical jargon or annoying buzzwords, but rather was centered on the need for actions, empathy and knowledge both on an individual and systemic scale. I do believe anyone from any background would be able to follow this presentation and engage in the discussions which was facilitated by Samantha.

This was a great platform for highlighting the importance of thought and conversation on the realities of our environmental climate.

It doesn’t sugarcoat the situation at all, the road to collaborative action for positive change is rough. But it’s precisely that. Inaction would be allowing this poison to perpetuate — that’s my biggest takeaway. No action will go unnoticed no matter how small. Thank you Sam for being the light that you are and for doing this!

The Global Room was a refreshing experience for me because learned new things about climate change while interacting with fellow participants. I found the information useful as I also work in the field of climate change.

I signed up to Sam’s 3-part Global Room webinar series and must say that I was absolutely blown away by Sam’s knowledge, her ability to connect macro and micro systems with ease and the way in which she communicated a complex story and system, with effortless accessibility for myself as a newbie in the field of sustainability/regeneration.

I took away pages of notes and ideas, which in and of themselves was interesting, but what made the experience even more compelling was the group conversation that Sam facilitated. Beyond just a teaching experience, Sam intentionally holds space at regular intervals throughout the webinar series to engage peers in conversation and wow, that took us into some interesting and innovative spaces.

With new-found knowledge we must ‘do’ and I feel that Sam has truly developed a best-in-class webinar series that serves as an intro or recap for experienced and non-experienced people in the field of sustainability and regeneration, to support us being able to do more effectively. Thank you Sam.
