Event description

Description

Support new local writers on SRT’s stage!

After training with our facilitator, Li Xie for 16 weeks, our budding playwrights are now ready to present their works. The showcase will be performed by The Young Company's acting programme members. The Young Company Writing Programme is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies.

This writing platform has equipped the young writers with tools to structure and present their work whilst allowing them the freedom to develop their own ideas. Come and watch their works come alive from page to stage. The showcase will be performed at KC Arts Centre - Home of SRT and admission is complimentary.

Here is a list of the seven plays.

Tough Cookies (and other angels) by Kristina Tom

Whether we think of them as ghosts, guardian angels or simply the memories of loved ones, the dead never really leave us. Two weeks after she has died of a long childhood illness, Daphne finds herself not quite passed on, a silent observer as her brother and mother come to terms with their grief. A story of a family, and a meditation on loss, this tragicomedy asks an old but as yet unanswered question: What happens after we die?

神台 The Altar by Jasmin Wong

However, the unexpected arrival of Cheryl's father revealed a secret. This leaves Cheryl with a difficult decision to make, placing her closest relationships at stake.

91 Days by Tasneem Majeed

A heart-warming tale about the love and nurturing relationship between a misunderstood dyslexic girl and her passionate, eccentric teacher. Starry-eyed and loving, this teacher drastically shifts the paradigms of those who mean the most to her; broadening her horizons and eventually allowing her to realize her full potential as a different but extraordinary individual.

Torn by T. Neshma

The family has been shattered. The pieces scattered are labeled pain, disappointment and resentment. This is the story of Reanne, a 15-year-old, in finding her parents in two estranged individuals.

An Actor's Friends by Lavanya Bhargava

After Sabrina gets the part of the understudy in the play she is in; she discovers a new side of her. Her oldest and her closest friends sense something is up. Will Angela be able to help Sabrina or will Sabrina lose herself completely?
