About the Programme
As we grow up, losing teeth often feels like a rite of passage into adulthood. However, experiencing tooth loss as an adult can be an upsetting and costly experience, which can in turn affect our confidence and general health.There are various reasons why we might experience tooth loss. Is tooth loss truly unavoidable as we age? What can we do when we lose our teeth? Can replacement options like dentures and implants restore the function of our natural teeth?
In this talk, we will explore common causes for tooth loss and share some tips on increasing the longevity and health of our teeth and gums. We will also be discussing replacement options for tooth loss so that you can eat well, speak well, and smile with confidence.

Speaker's Information
Dr Chan Pei Yuan is a full-time clinician with National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) since 2010 and is a Consultant with the Endodontics Unit of the Department of Restorative Dentistry. She graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2009 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, and was awarded the postgraduate scholarship from NDCS to pursue a Masters of Dental Surgery in Endodontics at NUS from 2011- 2014.
She is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is also registered with the Singapore Dental Specialist Accreditation Board. She is currently serving as the chairperson of the Chapter of Endodontists, College of Dental Surgeons, Singapore (CDSS). She is a clinical teacher with the Faculty of Dentistry, NUS, and a clinical instructor with Duke-NUS Medical School.
She has been the clinician lead for NDCS community outreach since 2018 and strongly champions for the improvement of oral health in the population through community screening programmes and the Singapore Oral Health Movement 8020.
Dr Maria Binte Rahmat works full-time in the National Dental Centre of Singapore as an Associate Consultant in the Prosthodontics Unit under the Department of Restorative Dentistry. With a keen interest in improving patients’ aesthetics and function, she plans for and manages teeth replacement, teeth restoration and dental rehabilitations.
Dr Maria graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry in the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2013 and subsequently, a Master of Dental Surgery in Prosthodontics in 2019. She is registered on the Singapore Dental Specialists Accreditation Board and a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
