Synopsis - Amidst The Turmoil: Seeking Clarity & Balance (Public Lecture)
In this age of ideological, religious and political chaos and confusion, there is a real need to sieve through the chaos? From bombings to killings, sectarian wars to widespread destruction - how can we find meaning in such a fractured world? From the time of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, Muslims have always strived to maintain their spirituality despite the challenges that they have faced. Persecution, harassment and discrimination did not dampen the spirit of Muslims for the last 1400 years. In fact history indicated that Muslims soared to their heights under very challenging circumstances.
Ustadh Usama Canon will discuss the qualities that Muslims will need to separate the wheat from the chaff. Qualities like forebearance, self-restraint, sensibility and compassion, which should be manifested by each Muslim so that they can have the means to cope with circumstances of their life and the environment. How do we disengage ourselves from the confusion and engage with our spirituality to enhance our relationship with Allah and His Messenger, and lead exemplary lives to the benefit of mankind and society? Ustadh Usama Canon will share his experiences, knowledge and wisdom and discuss the rules of engagement and how to best adhere to the practice of the Prophet Muhammad salallahu alaihi wasallam in all spheres of our lives. He will propose acts of worship and obedience to enhance one’s spirituality so that we can seek clarity and balance amidst the widespread turmoil.
Synopsis - Seeking our Moral Compass: Lessons for a Guided Muslim (Workshop)
Ustadh Usama Canon will define and share the attributes of who he considers to be a guided Muslim believer. He will also discuss questions like "Where do we seek our moral compass? Who should be our past and contemporary role models?" This constantly developing era of the new media just makes things more complicated and muddled, and Muslims find greater complexity to navigate their way towards the path in seeking the Love of Allah and His Messenger. Ustadh Usama Canon will share his thoughts on the importance of having a moral compass and mentor in our journey towards Allah The Glorious.
Synopsis - When Allah Rewrites My Life (Public Lecture)
We all wish for our lives to be enacted in a certain way. We have it in our minds like a good script. But every now and then, Allah Almighty takes our lives off tangent with events and happenings not to our choosing and even liking. Adventures and misadventures, some are even painful and scary. How can we deal with such off tangent moments, off-script days? How can we understand God's Mercy and Love in a reality that is so uncertain? Ustadh Usama Canon will address these important questions and more, and shed light how we can steer our lives amidst the noise and chaos so that we can develop intense clarity and balance.
Synopsis - After the Prophet (s): A Spirituality of Service (Workshop)
In today's dog-eat-dog world and reality, people are often indulged in their self-interests as they chase upon their careers and financial security. While Muslims consider it enough to be just performing the rukn or necessities of Islam like prayers and zakat, there's certainly more to life and spirituality than just that. Muslims should be encouraged to partake in community responsibilities to care for the poor, sick, needy and homeless. Muslims should also be at the forefront of philanthropy and charity works so that they can become leaders and proponents in improving the state of the world and making the world a better place for everyone to coexist. Ustadh Usama Canon will discuss how can we take a moment from our busy lives, and take stock of our achievements and contributions towards the family, community and society. He will also share how the spiritualilty of service is equated to an increase in our spiritual ranks in the sight of Allah The Merciful.
