About the Event

This 14 November 2019, 7pm at Menara AIA CapSquare KL, UXMY Meetup will be featuring 3 speakers to share their knowledge and experience in design and UX.

The Talks & Networking

From Style to Solve – the Evolution of Design

Homaxi Irani – Head of UX & Design, SEEK (Asia)

As our markets become more competitive and technology enables faster and better development, we know that a key differentiator for brands is the customer experience (CX) that they deliver with their products and services.

“Design” is often misunderstood as being only about form, or style. It is a key lever for companies to gain a competitive edge by intimately understanding their market, by identifying their customers’ problems and providing meaningful solutions. Homaxi will talk about some common mistakes organisations and teams make along their journey of design evolution and CX maturity.

Cross Cultural Research – Fascinatingly Complicated

Karen Yap – Strategic Service Design Lead, SEEK (Asia)

To build products that thrive in different countries and cross-cultural environments, we need to understand the fundamentals of users’ needs and challenges. For researchers diving into an unknown or less familiar country, it can be overwhelming and difficult to know how to get started. Understanding and planning for cultural differences and logistics can be difficult. Furthermore, gathering a vast amount of cross-country data yields so much information, it can be overwhelming trying to distil the findings in a meaningful way.

Karen will be sharing her lessons and tips from the practical to the strategic, on how to navigate your way in getting research done and consolidating findings across the region in a way that makes it meaningful and useful for the product development process.

The Art of Doing Things Wrong: Myths and Common Mistakes of Growing UX Teams

Ben Kim – Head of Product & UX, Style Theory

We often hear the phrase “it’s okay to make mistakes.” And yet, many UXers are often scared of trying new things for the fear of doing things “wrong.” Even worse, they are stuck in environments that encourage safe play or worse, punished for taking risks. In this talk, Ben will share some insights for UXers on how to correctly do things wrong, inspired by stories from more than 100 UX Teams across 6 continents.
