A performance and book launch - Ki Catur Kuncoro, one of the most creative younger puppeteers from Yogyakarta performs up against a discussion of Jan Mrázek's new book Wayang & Its Doubles. A multimedia, networked event all the way around!

Ki “Benyek” Catur Kuncoro is one of the most creative younger puppeteers from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A frequent collaborator with leading Indonesian artists, he is famous for his Wayang Hip Hop, and he is well-liked as a performer of traditional wayang. Through his performance, he will respond to the theme of this evening, the interaction between wayang and electronic media such as television and the internet.

Jan Mrázek, the author of Phenomenology of a Puppet Theatre: Contemplations on the Art of Contemporary Javanese Wayang Kulit and other books on Southeast Asian arts, is associate professor at the Department of Southeast Asian Studies, National University of Singapore, and the founding director of the Singa Nglaras Gamelan Ensemble.
