People often say, “ I have a restless mind, so I’m not good at meditation.” There is actually no prerequisite when it comes to meditation; you don’t need to be good at it in order to practice it.

Just like to how we exercise: we exercise because we want to become healthy and strong, and even if we are healthy and strong, we don’t stop; we continue to exercise to maintain a level of well-being. Mindfulness Meditation is the exercise of the mind, to help us develop a healthy and strong mind so we can face all that’s thrown at us by life.

Just like any kind of exercises, you have to do it right in order for the training to be effective; good craftmanship depends on the use of the right tool. There are two types of meditation, one cultivates concentration (samatha), and the other cultivates insight (vipassana). A well-developed concentration helps one realize Universal Rules hence the full understanding of such turns into life wisdom.

In this weekend workshop, we will look into the development of concentration as well as discussing different tools to overcome some of the obstacles that ALL practitioners come across (etc. discomfort in the body, restlessness, drowsiness, and emotions). When you know yourself and the practice well, you have a better chance to succeed.

We will be diving into the material slowly, so we suggest you to join the two full days in order to gain a whole understanding of the topic. This workshop is opened to both seasoned meditators as well as beginners. The workshop will be taught in English.

Schedule (Maybe subject to slight changes depending on the learning progress)

Day 1, September 8

13:00 - 18:00 Yin Yoga, sitting meditation, and lecture (Two 15-min breaks in between)

Day 2, September 9

10:00 - 12:30 Yin Yoga & Sitting Meditation

14:00 – 17:00 Sitting meditation, lecture, and Q&A

About Janet

Dedicated to integrating yoga, life wisdom, and mindfulness practices, Janet has been teaching since 2006. She has presented at TEDx and is a published author, releasing her first book in Chinese, “Living with Yoga and Mindfulness” in 2014 and the second book in Chinese “The Darkness and Light of Life” in 2017.

She holds a master degree in Buddhist studies and combines ancient yoga philosophy, Buddhism, and spirituality into her teaching. She taught on a retreat hosted by Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh, currently as a guest teacher for Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) and is regularly featured in newspapers, magazines, and radio talk shows in Asia.
