World Humanist Day 2018: Inter-Belief in a Secular Society

The first non-religious-led conversation on belief, non-belief, and inter-belief!

Programme:

Welcome Address & Keynote Speech by Ms Catherine Lim (15 mins)

Session #1: Talk on Humanism, and the non-religious spectrum by Mr Paul Tobin (10 mins)
Synopsis: As we celebrate World Humanist Day, it is important to understand the local Humanist movement - what is Humanism anyway, who they/we are, and why (Secular) Humanism. Appreciating these nuances and subtleties can facilitate future dialogue.

Session #2: Panel discussion on Differences among the community of people with or without Beliefs (30 mins)
On the panel - Dr Mathia Lee (moderator), Teh Pei Jing, Darren Mak, Ronald Ng, Shiva Rai, and Rev Miak Siew.
Synopsis: Understanding our differences can help us contextualise and appreciate one another's culture, heritage, and idiosyncrasies better. Here, we aim for an amicable discussion on myths and facts surrounding belief as well as non-belief.

Session #3: Panel discussion on Similarities, and how to live together (30 mins)
On the panel - Mr Tan Tatt Si (moderator), Phra Goh Chun Kiang, Imran Mohd Taib, Paul Singh-Gill, Dr Sunita Rai, and Mary-Rose Guat See.
Synopsis: Moving forward, we discuss the common denominators which unite us. Our similarities can hold us together, help evoke empathy, and allow us to work towards a shared future.
