About the Programme
This workshop is for participants aged 50 and above.
Curious to find out what can be made from simple materials like thread and yarn when combined with new technologies such as laser cutting? Join us at MakeIT as we teach you how to make ornamental wall decorations using our mini-loom weaving kits, where we will also show you how to create a kit from start to finish.Through the example of making a small wall hanging, you will be able to:
• Learn weaving terminology and common patterns such as plain weave, basket weave, twill weave, and soumak
• Practise basic weaving techniques on a mini frame loom that you can take home with you
• Create your own woven design using the supplied thread and yarn
• Observe how products such as miniature looms can be created using a laser cutter
This programme is suitable for beginners. No prior knowledge of weaving or laser cutting is needed to participate.
About the Series
MakeIT X Time of Your Life (TOYL) aims to discover the maker in all of us and empower seniors to create using digital fabrication technologies. Through the shared experience of making, we aspire to foster a sense of community and open up opportunities to create new relationships, develop new skills and learn from one another.
