Positive psychology is a natural fit with coaching because both rest on the assumption that people are fundamentally resourceful.

“Positive psychology is a natural fit with coaching because both rest on the assumption that people are fundamentally healthy, resourceful and motivated to grow” (Robert Biswas-Diener, 2007) Sulynn aims to show how coaches who internalise a positive psychology perspective might better support their clients during challenging times such as the season that we are in now. She will share how to apply the science of positive psychology in the art of coaching. Positive psychology is an approach to life and work that markedly influences how a coach views, connects, and relates to clients and the sustainability of positive coaching outcomes. It asks and answers questions about personal change and growth, reminding us to leverage on ‘what is going right’. Research findings help us understand which coaching inventions would be effective on whom and when because positive psychology investigates why and how coaching interventions work. For instance, research results show that a strength-based focus on developing the positives in people is more effective than addressing weakness and problems.Evidence-based coaching interventions evokes hope, happiness, and goal striving in clients. Positive psychology in coaching enhances the effectiveness of coaches and separates good coaches from great coaches.Speaker bio: Sulynn Choong, ACCFounder &amp; CEO, Asian Center for Applied Positive Psychology &amp; Founder &amp; Owner, Human Capital Perspectives Sulynn is a Positive Change Strategist/Executive Coach/Learning Facilitator working with professionals and executives to achieve optimal levels of performance and work satisfaction.
