Faculty Recital: “Of Salt and Pepper..”

Inspirational life-affirming music-making is at the heart of the YST Conservatory. Centred in one of the world’s most dynamic countries, YST is uniquely placed to offer a distinct and powerful contemporary Asian voice.The Conservatory brings together a world-class faculty and facility to nurture students in performance, composition, production and engagement. Through our undergraduate, graduate, continuing education and youth offerings, we connect dynamically with the surrounding musical ecosystem. We host a vibrant performance calendar with around 200 concerts annually, featuring students and faculty alongside international artists. Our community engagement programme has extensive local and global reach. Students are supported to find their own artistic pathways through exchanges, festivals, competitions and projects. More broadly, our international networks further enhance the educational experience and ensure our continued evolution.

Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music

This programme was inspired by the flavorful contrasts brought about by an interesting collaboration by the T’ang Quartet, YST fac & alumni.

T’ANG QUARTETBRETT STEMPLE, tubaADELINE WONG, composerQIN LI-WEI, celloZHANG MANCHIN, violaVIKTORIYA KLYUKINA (B.Mus4), fluteCHARMAINE TEO, harpLI XIN, clarinetPROGRAMME(Order tbc)RAVELIntroduction and Allegro for Flute, Harp, Clarinet and String QuartetADELINE WONGEchoes for Tuba and Strings (world premiere)BRAHMSStrings Sextet No. 2 in G Major, Op. 36ABOUT THIS EVENTAs the title suggests, this programme was inspired by the flavorful contrasts brought about by an interesting collaboration by the T’ang Quartet together with esteemed members of the YST faculty and successful alumni.The “Salt and Pepper” analogy playfully depicts a plethora of fascinating connections between the young and the seasoned, the new and the old, as well as the vast diversity of pitch range, textures and artistic styles.Consisting of a quintet, sextet and septet, this programme also holds much significant meaning for the performers as the family of YST faculty and alumni, alumni-turned-faculty and alumni-turned-colleagues, are reunited to make music together.TICKETING INFORMATIONUp to 200 audience members (in groups of 2) will be allowed. To help keep our community safe, here are the measures that we will be adhering to:• Free admission via Eventbrite registration only• A maximum group size of two (2) is allowed for each registration.• Audience members who are not fully vaccinated* will be required to undergo Pre-Event Testing (PET) at any MOH approved clinics and costs of the PET will be borne by audience members. Children between 6 - 12 years old are not required to undergo Pre-Event Testing.• *Fully vaccinated: having received 2nd dose by 3 October 2021.• There will be no on-site PET at the Conservatory for this concert.• All ticket holders must warrant that all vaccination and Pre-Event Testing (PET) information (if any) are correct when requested for disclosure. • All ticket holders must consent to the collection, use and disclosure of personal data in relation to the ticket holders’ vaccination and PET data. • Out of respect for other concertgoers, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission. Do bring along your negative PET test result notice, photo identification, and mobile device with updated TraceTogether (TT) app or token for SafeEntry check-in. We regret that patrons who do not have their photo ID, the app or token will be denied entry.
