From Port to Pie: Hands-On Banana Pie Workshop & Heritage Experience
From maritime trade to table—discover banana heritage and craft your own Singapore banana pie in this hands-on workshop experience.
From Port to Pie: A Journey Through Trade, Bananas & Singapore’s Iconic Pie
As part of Singapore HeritageFest 2026, Dona Manis will host a series of public talks and guided tours, in line with this year’s theme of Maritime Heritage.
The “From Port to Pie” workshop explores the rich cultural and historical connection between Singapore’s maritime heritage and the diverse varieties of bananas that have arrived through global shipping routes. Participants will discover the fascinating journey of different banana types that were once transported across oceans in shipping containers, linking trade and the exchange of agricultural goods. This hands-on workshop not only celebrates the role of bananas in Singapore’s culinary history, but also highlights the maritime routes that have shaped the local food scene.
A key highlight of the session is the mini Singapore banana pie making segment, where participants will learn to craft this beloved local treat, which they can enjoy fresh at the workshop, or take home as a delicious souvenir of the day’s exploration into both food and history.
