Swab Training for Clinic Assistant

The Swab Training Course is co-organized by MOH and AIC for clinic assistants to augment efforts in the SASH programme.

About this event

This course is specially curated for Clinic Assistants (CA) to further support the clinics' effort in the Swab and Send Home (SASH) programme. SASH will continue to be an important strategy towards active case findings in the community. With the introduction of new swab techniques, this course will cover both the Nasopharyngeal (NP) and the Oropharyngeal and Middle Turbinate (OPMT) swabs.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

1. Practice good infection control measures for swabbing operations2. Apply the correct donning and doffing techniques of PPE3. Apply the right techniques in assisting swabbing operations for COVID-19 test

Course Outline

1. Understanding Covid-19 mode of transmission and chain of infection.

2. Infection control as well as donning and doffing Personal Protective Equipment.

3. Performing various methods of taking swab for Covid-19 test.

4. Understanding waste disposal methods and specimen spillage incidents.

5. Safe handling of swab specimen.

6. Control of records, reports and documentation.

Guidelines for booking the slots:

1. Registration for the slots are on a first-come-first-service basis and registration will close when the slots are full.

2. Clinics will need to find their own replacement for the slots if the registered participant is unable to make it for the slot. Clinic will be de-prioritised for future events for no-shows.

3. Please limit to 1 CA per clinic as slots are extremely limited.

Information for participants:

1. A confirmation email will be sent to participants by the organiser 1 week prior to commencement of the training. The class may not proceed if the minimum class size is not met.

2. There is pre-reading of materials required prior to attending the course. The materials will be sent across to participants along with the confirmation email.

3. There is no lunch and tea break provided during the sessions.

4. A certificate of completion for Swab Assistants will be awarded to all participants who complete the training.
