RETREAT LEADERS (IN PERSON)

Dr Ronald D. Siegel is an Assistant Professor of Psychology, part time, at Harvard Medical School, where he has taught for over 35 years. He is a long time student of mindfulness meditation and serves on the Board of Directors and faculty of the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy. He teaches internationally about the application of mindfulness practice in psychotherapy and other fields, and maintains a private clinical practice in Lincoln, Massachusetts.

Dr. Siegel is author of a comprehensive guide for general audiences, The Mindfulness Solution: Everyday Practices for Everyday Problems; coeditor of the critically acclaimed text, Mindfulness and Psychotherapy, 2nd Edition, and Wisdom and Compassion in Psychotherapy; coauthor of the professional guide, Sitting Together: Essential Skills for Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy; coauthor of the self-treatment guide Back Sense, which integrates Western and Eastern approaches for treating chronic back pain; and author of the forthcoming book, The Extraordinary Gift of Being Ordinary: Finding Happiness Right Where You Are.

He is also professor for The Science of Mindfulness: A Research-Based Path to Well-Being produced by The Great Courses, a regular contributor to other professional publications, and co-director of the annual Harvard Medical School Conference on Meditation and Psychotherapy.

Adj. A/Prof Angie Chew is the Founder and CEO of Brahm Centre, a mental health charity with over 50 staff, dedicated to promoting happier and healthier living. In recognition of her contributions in the mental health space, she was named “The Straits Times Singaporean of the Year 2019”.

She is the first certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher in Singapore conferred by the Mindfulness Center at Brown University School of Public Health. She is also a Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy Course teacher trained by Oxford University Mindfulness Centre.

Angie is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Mindfulness at the National University of Singapore. She has conducted mindfulness-based workshops and courses on self-care, resilience, performance and grief management to corporates, healthcare institutions, schools, ministries, statutory boards and social service agencies.

Her clients include Ministry of Health, National Healthcare Group, Singhealth, Institute of Mental Institution, Raffles Hospital, Agency for Integrated Care, Ministry of Education, Raffles Institution, NUS High School, Nanyang Technological University, Monetary Authority of Singapore, DBS Bank, OCBC Bank, Singapore Judiciary, Singapore Police Force, MINDEF, Ministry of Manpower, CapitalLand Limited, Keppel Corporation, Korn Ferry, just to name some.

WHAT?

This is a 5-day retreat with residential and silent options at Changi Cove. Dr Ronald Siegel and Adj. A/Prof Angie Chew will be conducting the retreat with instructions, guidance on mindfulness practices, yoga stretching and talks.

The theme for the retreat is: Living A Happier Life

The retreat is also suitable for those new to mindfulness. However, it is recommended to attend a mindfulness course at Brahm Centre for greater benefits.

If you are a seasoned mindfulness practitioner, you have the option to observe silence throughout the retreat except when you are invited to share or speak.

You are to let go the use of your mobile device for one day in order to immerse into the silence to experience the sphere of mental clarity. If there is an emergency, your family is to contact the hotel.

COURSE FEE:

$770 |*$154 for seniors eligible for National Silver Academy (NSA) subsidy

*NSA subsidy is for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents aged 50 and above.

In addition to NSA subsidy, course fee may be offset by SkillsFuture Credit (SFC).

Payment Procedure:

1) Upon registration, course participants are to make payment for the course through Brahm Centre’s Eventbrite page.

2) Participants have to claim with SFC before the course start date through the SkillsFuture portal, https://www.myskillsfuture.gov.sg/content/portal/en/index.html

3) Brahm Centre will reimburse the amount that is successfully claimed upon receipt of the funds from SFC. This procedure can take up to 12 weeks from the course start date.

• Please note that payments for courses are non-refundable.• There are no make-up lessons if you miss any session.• If you miss the first session, you are allowed to proceed with the course. However, the trainer is not obligated to do a recap during the second session.• Brahm Centre reserves the right to replace a trainer, should the trainer be unable to conduct the class due to unforeseen circumstances.
