Speaker: Dr Yen Hwee Ling, Consultant Rehabilitation Physician, Tan Tock Seng Hospital

Acupuncture has its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and has been practised for several thousand years. It is very popular amongst both the well public and patients with medical conditions. What are the TCM philosophy and principles underlying acupuncture? What are the mechanisms and effectiveness from a Western medical perspective? What conditions does acupuncture treat? What are the potential benefits and side effects? These are some of the questions which will be discussed during the talk by Dr Yen Hwee Ling. She will give an overview of acupuncture from the perspective of a western medical doctor and explore how it can be used in the management of various ailments.

Dr Yen is a senior consultant in the Dept of Rehabilitation Medicine, Tan Tock Seng Hospital where she manages patients with various disabilities. Her subspecialty interests include stroke and adolescent rehabilitation. She is also a practising acupuncturist and is particularly interested in the application of acupuncture for pain relief.
