About the Speaker

Ms Teresa Shiu

Lecturer, Republic Polytechnic

Teresa has over 17 years of experience working in the health and fitness industry,

• as a personal fitness trainer & Pilates coach;
• managed MNC’s workplace health promotion programs, delivering corporate health programmes, events and talks on weight management and lifestyle disease management;
• implemented policy to increase sports participation among Singapore working adults during her time with Sports Singapore (which was then called Singapore Sports Council).

Besides helping adults and youths in their battle of weight management, Teresa also has vast experience in post-rehabilitation work with clinical and aging population to help improve functions and fitness of people suffering from degeneration-related and skeletomuscular problems. She is a certified clinical fitness trainer and editorial member of “Exercise is Medicine – Singapore”.

Teresa is passionate in promoting physical activity participation for people with special needs. She is currently working on a research project funded by Tote Board’s Social Innovation Research grant, which aims to develop resources to support special educators in reducing inactivity among students with special needs. She is also involved in the Community of Practice (CoP) for physical activity for people with special needs.
